HERPES

It can be contracted in oral, vaginal or anal relations without protection, being of a highly contagious character if the contact is direct.

WHAT IS IT?

This infection is caused by one of the viruses of the family of herpes and can be type 1 or type 2. Being type 1 which produces mouth ulcers and type 2 genital lesions.

It can be contracted in oral, vaginal or anal relations without protection, being of a highly contagious character if the contact is direct.

TYPES OF HERPES

Primary: It appears shortly after sexual contact (often before a week) and its symptoms are usually quite fulminant, appearing multiple blisters, which after the days will become ulcerous and very painful.
Secondary: It is the one that appears once we have had herpes in the past, that is, a relapse. The lesions tend to be less numerous and their infection lasts less time on our skin.

SYMPTOM

Many people with herpes do not know it, either because they have not developed any symptoms or because they are so mild that they have hardly noticed it.

The typical symptoms of Herpes, both type 1 and type 2, are usually blister-shaped sores, which eventually leave painful wounds.

This infection, being viral in nature, can cause re-growth, that is, it can appear again, especially in the first year after infection, with the symptoms being milder and less painful.

Relapses are frequent especially during the first year after infection. The following outbreaks usually last less and are less severe. Although the infection can remain in the body for the rest of your life, the number of outbreaks tends to decrease over the years.

We have often seen how many of our patients are concerned about injuries that they consider to be syphilis, but one of the main differences between syphilis and herpes is pain, since syphilis causes painless sores even to the touch.

TREATMENT

There is no treatment to cure herpes, but there are palliatives in the form of creams or orally, which will help to prevent or reduce the duration of outbreaks.
